Row one Location: The first location was captured at the bottom of a tree at wines elementary school. I chose this location because the texture of the tree/barks works really well with the soil. The lighting in this area and the lack of color in the subject gives the photo a more grey scale look. I think this lighting conveys a more somber feeling that accompanies the feeling of the weather changing. Row two Location : This location was captured in a potted plant in my neighbors yard. I chose this area because the light penetrates the canopy of the leaves in a very interesting way. The light reflects off of the waxy stems of the plant creating a cool image. There is also nice contrast between the solid/organic material used to pot the plant with the actual leaves. I wanted to convey a more positive feeling with the light. Row three location: This is taken in a grass field at 242 community church. I chose this particular patch of grass because of how many leaves still remained. I thought the color of the leaves would add contrast with the grass and make a better image. I also positioned the camera towards the bottoms of the stems of grass pointed upwards to allow light from the sky to shine into the grass. The different shades in grass blades adds hue. The feeling I was trying to portray in this image is curiosity and wonder, as like most people, I spent a lot of time playing in the grass and learning as a child, and that reminds me of how curious I was and am. Row four location: This image was taken under a wild plant right outside of my yard. This plant has very large stems and a very condensed canopy. The way the plant is shaped allows for a very cool image to be taken under the cannopy. This is inhanced by the limited amount of light that shines through the canopy. Therefore most of the light comes from the other side under the leaves. I believe this makes the image look like a tunnel or the underpass of a "nature bridge. " Due to the lack of light the feeling I was trying to convey in this image was mysterious or isolated like wandering in an unknown forest. Row five location: This final location is located inside a decomposing log I found in the skyline woods. There is really nice lighting because there are no plants where the tree used to be, so the details of the log are easily seen. There is also nice contrast between the texture of the part of the log that is mainly intact, and the part of the log that has begun to erode and form mulch. The feeling I was trying to convey with this image is a desolate feeling, as the destroyed log hints towards the death of nature and the natural cycle, however the image itself is somewhat empty of color and looks like an empty landscape thus the desolate feeling. |

The first location is my house. This location is very important to me because it provides stability and safety to my life. During quarentine it was really the only place I could go. My home has lead me to meet good people such as neighbors and freinds. It is also representative of the architecual skills of my father who designed and built our house. The second location is skyline high school. School is very important to me because of all of the great memories I have had throuhout the last four years. Without school I would not be the person I am today. It has also taught me valueable lessons and has set me up for a successful future in college. I have also met many great people and freinds that I hope I keep throughout life. The third location is forsythe middle school. Middle school is a big part of everyones life. It is were I first began to gain independence and freedom in life. It is where I began to develop my own identity and where I met some of the best freinds that I have. Middle school was probably the most Joyful time in life, even though I would never go back. Hanging out with freinds in middles school was pure bliss. The fourth location is bigbee coffee. This was one of the first jobs that I ever had. It taught me how to manage money, and helped me build a resume so I can get more jobs in the future. It also fueled my family and I's coffee addiction throughout the years. The final location is wines elementary school. This location is important to me because it is the first school I went to since moving from Detroit. Wines was eye opening for me as it was so different from schools I attended in the past. I was only there for one year however it was the most fun year of school in my life. It was challenging moving to a new school however wines made the transition to ann arbor very easy. I will never forget all of the memories and freinds I made at that school. |
ReflectionsShadowsSymmetryDouble Exposure #2Artist Statement: The selfie was taken at the beginning of quarantine, where I was feeling exited by new circumstances and the unknown. I was exited that we had time off school, and I thought quarentine was not gonna last. However as time continued I realized the seriousness of the situation, and it turned into one of the worst periods of my life. The second picture is from one of the best times of my life when I went to Japan for a foreign exchange program. This photo was taken at a Japanese temple and Sand garden. I chose it because the contrast between the two pictures shows the contrast of how different I was feeling at the two times.
